Mary Munn Battenfield (Muskogee HS) Tulsa recently finished 11 years of service on the NSU Alumni Association Board of Directors.  During her years on the board she served on MANY committees afterwards serving as President Elect, President, and last year finished her years on the board as Past President.
Mary Munn Battenfield, a graduate of Muskogee High School and wife of Dr. Harold Battenfield, is well known for her continual support of NSU.  While at Northeastern she was a member of Sigma Sigma Sigma social sorority, a member of the cheerleading squad, and Phi Sigma Epsilon (brother fraternity) Sweetheart.

Ronnie is a graduate of Muskogee High School and graduated NSU in 1962.  At NSU he was a member of the tennis team for 3 years and a member of the Phi Sigma Epsilon social fraternity.  His life's work was with Shell Oil Company and later serving as a consultant for several oil companies.  Since retirement he has been active in tennis, golf, and a senior softball team.  He says he "is proud to be a member of the Nifty Fifties Alumni Association and member of the Board."

Just a note of thanks for all of the help that is given to make this site a success.  And, also, to all of you who attend Homecoming each year.  We always have a great time and that is due to the fact that we had GREAT people at NSU during "our" days and have gone on to be very successful in life.  Homecoming each year couldn't be what it is without your attendance and support----------THANKS!!!!!
The clock tower at the right is a replica of the one on the Tahlequah campus.  It will remain the symbol of the University.  Many people think that because the mascot has been changed from Redmen to Riverhawks that our identity will be altered.   The new logo will refer to the athletic teams only.  The new mascot will be unveiled on April 24 at a special unveiling around noon on the campus.  The board got a sneak preview of the different styles and I think you will be very pleased with what Dr. Neil Weaver and the search committee has come up with.  I was very fortunate to have been a part of that committee--it was hard as I am an avid defender of the name, Redmen, but it was an inevitable change.  One correction will be that the colors green and white will be constant and shirts etc. with other colors will be limited to gray and black.  You'll see no shirts in pink, yellow, etc.  Also the band flags will reflect the same.

Northeastern's
Colors
Have you ever wondered why the colors of NSU are green and white since the original name was REDMEN?  There is a prefectly good reason believe it or not.  Northeastern was the state's first educational institution in Oklahoma and the lfirst to use the state's colors: Green and White.  The state bestowed the colors Green and White on NSU due to the fact stated above.  As Paul Harvey would say  "and that's the rest of the story' !!!!!!

After graduation Mary taught elementary education for several years.  "My best thing to make a difference".  She spent five years on the Pink ribbo0n board at the Cancer Society in Tulsa.  Most of that time was raising money for women who could not afford to have Mammograms.  Mary herself is a 25 year survivor of breast cancer
Need to know about the world??????  Check with Mary---she and husband, Harold, have traveled throughout the world having visited all seven continents!!!!  Often times John and Janice Carletti were traveling companions and at times so were Raymond and Ellen Ford.  Both latter couples are also graduates of NSU.  Just another success story of NSU grads and members of the NSU Nifty Fifties!!!!!!
